David Ortiz retired from the Boston Red Sox at the end of the 2016 season and the Red Sox announced that they will retire his number 34 prior to the game against the Los Angeles Angels on June 23rd. But, his good friend, Pedro Martinez said in a recent interview with WEEI during the Red Sox Winter Weekend that he expects that Big Papi will return to the field at some point in the 2017 season!

“David says he’s retired,” Martinez said. “But I still believe David is going to give it another try. I don’t know why I have that feeling that David might want to do that. I just don’t see David, having the type of season that he had, and having the success that he was still having, sitting at home wasting it. David is too smart. I still believe David is going to feel the little itch of coming back to spring training.”

So what do you think? Will David Ortiz return to the field in 2017?
