Sonny Gray Goes To 11-1 As Red Sox Top Mets 6-2

The Boston Red Sox didn't arrive at Citi Field to play the Mets until 5 p.m. Friday because of travel difficulties from Chicago, but they shrugged it off and beat the Mets 6-2 for their 7th straight win.

The game was delayed almost a hour to allow the Red Sox to get ready for the game.

Sonny Gray pitched 6.0 innings allowing 5 hits and 1 run, striking out 3 and walked 1 to improve to 11-1.

Anthony Siegler who seems locked in as Boston's leadoff hitter was 2-5 with a 2-run homer in the 7th inning. It was his 2nd of the season.

Wilyer Abreu hits his 11th homer in the 9th inning, a 2-run shot to provide Boston with some insurance runs. He finished 3-4 and had a double and single to go with the home run.

Masataka Yoshida was 2-4 with a pair of doubles, driving in 2 runs.

Prior to the game, Boston announced that Ceddanne Rafaela had been chosen to play in the All-Star game on Tuesday, filling in as an injury replacement.

Boston is now 44-48 and just 1 1/2 games out of the 3rd Wild Card spot.

The Red Sox and the Mets will play game 2 of the 3-game series on Saturday afternoon. The pregame starts at 3:10 on WDEA AM 1370.
