Ellsworth Girls Defeat Oceanside

The #11 seed Ellsworth Girls traveled to Rockland to take on the Oceanside Mariners, Tuesday, February 11th, with the winner advancing to take on MDI the #3 seed, Friday, February 14th at the Cross Insurance Center.

Oceanside jumped out to a 12-11 lead over Ellsworth in the 1st Quarter as Payton Billingsley and Emily Gould each sank 3-pointers for Oceanside. Ellsworth received 4 points from Emily Berry and 3 points from Sammy Mason.

At halftime Oceanside was up 20-18. Ellsworth received 3 more points from Berry, and Makenna Brooks drained a 3-pointer for Oceanside.

Things were looking bleak for Ellsworth after the3rd Quarter, as they were trailing by 8 points 36-28. Emily Gould scored 7 points for Oceanside, and Ashley Gardner added a 3-pointer. Oceanside was 5-8 from the free throw line. Maddy Card added 4 points for Ellsworth, and Card was just warming up!

In the 4th Quarter, Ellsworth outscored Oceasnside 22-11. Berry added 7 points, going 5-8 from the free throw line. Maddy Card, who during one of the timeouts was dry heaving on the bench, caused Oceanside some nauseous moments as she added 8 points including a 3-pointer, and sister Morgan Card added 6 points, including going 4-6 from the free throw line. Lily Vachon added a 3-pointer and Brooks added 6 points for Oceanside, but it wasn't enough, as Ellsworth came away with the 50-47 victory!

Ellsworth was led by Emily Berry with 16 points and Maddie Card added 12 points. Oceanside was led by Emily Gould and Makenna Brooks who each had 16 points. Ellsworth was 15-26 from the free throw line, while Oceanside was 10-17.

With the victory, Ellsworth advances to the Cross Insurance Center, and will play MDI on Friday, February 14th at 8 PM, in a game that will be heard on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio.
