The Boston Red Sox proved to be buyers prior to the 6 p.m. trade deadline on Monday, August 3rd, trading for Baltimore Oriole 3-time All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman and for outfielder Eli White from the Atlanta Braves.

The Red Sox traded Carlos Narvaez who had played in 62 games this season, 56 at catcher. They also traded minor league right-handed pitchers Anthony Eyanson and Kyson Witherspoon and minor league outfielder Enddy Azocar.

Eyanson was ranked as the Red Sox' number 2 prospect and top pitching prospect. He was currently playing in Double A Portland.

Witherspoon was ranked as Bostons number 3 prospect and was pitching for High-A Greenville.

Azocar was ranked as Boston's number 5 prospect and was playing at High-A Greenville.

Adley Rutschman had been selected to play in the All-Star game in 2023, 2024 and this year, 2026. He has played in 67 games for the Orioles this year batting .251. He has hit 19 doubles, 1 triple and 8 home runs, driving in 47 runs. He has thrown out 14 of 34 runners. He was placed on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation on July 20th.

The Re Sox also acquired catcher Jake Rogers from the O's. He was traded from the Tigers to the Orioles on July 30th. He has played in 39 games this season batting .163 with 2 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs and 9 runs batted in.

In another trade the Red Sox acquired Eli White from the Atlanta Braves in exchange or right-handed pitcher Tyler Uberstine.

White has played in 69 games for the Braves. He is batting .233 with 6 dubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs and 17 runs batted in. He has made 18 starts in right field, 10 in left field, 6 in center field and 1 as designated hitter.

The Red Sox gave up Uberstine who ha played 1 game for the Red Sox this season and has split time between High-A Greenville and Triple A Worcester.

Boston is off on Monday August 3rd, before opening a 6-game homestand on Tuesday, August 4th with 3 games against the White Sox followed by 3 games with the A's. Hear Tuesday's game on WDEA AM 1370 with the pregame starting at 6:10 p.m.
