Ellsworth Falls In OT 67-63
The Ellsworth Eagles traveled to Calais on Thursday, January 8th, and fell to Calais 67-63 in overtime.
Calais led at the end of the 1st Quarter 10-9. Madison McVicar had 5 points in the Quarter and Olivia Smith had 4 points. For Ellsworth Emily Berry had 4 points and Maddie Card had a 3 pointer while Samantha Mason had 2 points.
Both teams were deadlocked at 20-20 at the end of the 1st Half. Berry had 9 points for Ellsworth and Card had 2 points. Faith Tirrell had a 3-pointer for Calais and Smith had 2 points. Ellsworth was 1-5 from the free throw line in the 1st Half, while Calais was 6-13.
In the 3rd Quarter, Ellsworth took a 41-40 lead. Berry added 11 points to give her 24 through 3 Quarters. Hailey Langley added 6 points and Mason 4 points. For Calais, McVicar heated up, scoring 12 in the 3rd Quarter, including 2 3-pointers. Kaylee Johnson added a 3-pointer and Smith had 5 points.
After regulation, both teams were tied at 40-40. Calais came back from 4 down, and at the buzzer, Johnson scored to put the game into overtime. In the 4th Quarter Johnson scored 7 points for Calais including a 3-pointer, McVicar added 5 points including another 3-pointer and Smith had 2 points. For Ellsworth Maddie Card added 8 points in the Quarter and Caitlin Bean had 3 points.
After regulation, Ellsworth was 7-20 from the free throw line and Calais was 11-23.
In the 4th Quarter, McVicar scored 9 points, including a 3-pointer and went 7-7 from the free throw line.Langley and Mason each scored 4 points for Ellsworth.
In the game, Emily Berry, Caitlin Bean and Madison Card all fouled out for Ellsworth, and the Eagles were forced to play the last 2 minutes without 3 of their starters.
Calais was led by Madison McVicar with 32 points, Kaylee Johnson had 14 points and Olivia Smith had 13 points. Calais was 19-35 from the free throw line in the game.
Ellsworth was led by Emily Berry with a season high 26 points, while Card had 13 points and Langley 10 points. Ellsworth was 8-24 from the free throw line.
Calais is now 8-1 and and play at Houlton on Saturday, January 10th at 7 PM. Ellsworth is now 6-4 and will play at Sumner at 1:30 on Saturday, January 10th which is a time change from the previously scheduled 7 PM start time.
