The Ellsworth Girl's Basketball Team played host to Orono on Thursday, January 28th and came away with a 54-38 victory, to improve to 11-5 and improved their chances of finishing 4th in Class B North, and picking up the final automatic bid to the Cross Insurance Center and Tourney 2016.

The Ellsworth Eagles took a 15-11 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Madison Card had 7 points for Ellsworth, Sammy Mason had 6 points and Kate Whitney had 2 points. For Orono, Hannah Steelman had 2 3-pointers and 7 poiints and Hannah Clement had 4 points with a 3-pointer.

In the 2nd Quarter, Ellsworth outscored Orono 16-8 to take a 31-19 lead at the end of the 1st Half. Ellssworth's Katelynn Bagley had 6 points, Card had 4 points, Caitlin Bean, Hannah Sargent and Mason all had 2 points. For Orono, Clement had 6 points and Kassidy Dill had 2 points.

In the 3rd Quarter, Orono outscored Ellsworth 13-7 to cut the lead to 6, as Ellsworth led 38-32 after 3 Quarters. Orono's Dill had 8 points including 2 3-pointers, Clement had a 3-pointer and Jordan Hernandez had 2 points. For Ellsworth, Whitney had 4 points, while Bean had 2 points and Bagley had 1 point.

in the 4th Quarter, Orono was forced to foul, and after shooting poorly (6-16) from the free throw line, Ellsworth went 8-10 in the 4th Quarter. Card had 7 points, Bean and Mason each had 2 points and Bagley had 1 point as Ellsworth put up 16 points on the scoreboard. Steelman scored Orono's 6 points, on 2 3-pointers.

Ellsworth was led by Madison Card with 18 points while Samantha Mason had 12 points. Cailtin Bean and Katelynn Bagley each had 8 points. The Eagles were 14-26 from the free throw line.

Orono was led by Hannah Steelman and Hannah Clement, each of whom had 13 points. Kassidy Dill had 10 points. The Red Riots were 8-20 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth is 11-5 and has 2 games remaining, at the Cross Insurance Center on Saturday, January 30th at 5:30 PM and home against MDI on Senior Night on Wednesday, February 3rd at 7 PM. Both games will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio.

Orono is 4-12 and the Red Riots have 2 home games remaining, against Mattanawcook Academy on Tuesday, February 2nd and against Old Town on Thursday, February 4th.
