Red Sox Commit 2 More Errors Fall to Guardians 5-4
The Boston Red Sox committed 2 more errors on Thursday afternoon that led to 3 unearned runs, and the Red Sox fell to the Cleveland Guardians 5-4, to end the 10-game homestand 3-7. The Red Sox are 10-10 on the season.
Boston leads the majors with 20 errors.
Prior to the game the Red Sox placed Tyler O'Neill on the 7-day Injured list retroactive to April 16th. They reinstated Rob Refsnyder from the 10-day injured list to take his spot on the roster.
With 2 of Boston's starting pitchers on the injured list (Nick Pivetta and Garrett Whitlock), the Red Sox turned to the bullpen for pitchers.
Brennan Bernandino started for the Red Sox, and went 2.0 innings facing 6 batters, striking out 2. Cooper Criswell came on and went 2.1 innings, allowing 3 hits and 4 runs, but just 1 was earned as David Hamilton and Pablo Reyes each committed throwing errors. Joe Jacques pitched 1.2 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 run, striking out 2. Justin Slaten pitched a scoreless 7th and 8th innings, stiking out 1. Chris Martin pitched the 9th, striking out 1.
After the game the Red Sox option Jacques back to Worcester, so we can expect a roster move on Friday before the Pirate's game.
