The Boston Red Sox were no-hit thru 5 innings, trailing 1-0 on Monday night. In the 6th inning all that changed, with Connor Wong's double, a pair of walks and Ceddanne Rafaela's 1st career grand slam, as the Red Sox beat the A's 4-2.

Rafaela's homer, his 11th home run of the season came with 2 out and barely cleared the left field wall.

Curtis Mead made his Red Sox debut, starting at 2nd base. He struck out his 1st time at bat and then was hit in the wrist his next time at bat. He came out of the game and x-rays were negative.

Payton Tolle evened his record at 6-6 with the win. He pitched 5.1 innings allowing 2 runs and 5 hits, striking out 7 and walking 2. Justin Slaten retired the final 2 batters in the 6th inning. Jovani Moran and Garrett Whitlock each pitched a hitless inning. Aroldis Chapman earned his 25th save, allowing 1 hit and striking out the side in the 9th inning.

Boston is 55-50 and in 3rd place in the AL East and own the 2nd Wild Card spot.

Boston and the A's will play game 2 on Tuesday night, with the pregame starting at 8:40 on WDEA AM 1370.
