The Boston Red Sox made it interesting Tuesday night, losing to the A's 4-3, with Connor Wong's 2-run homer drawing Boston within 1 run in the 9th, but they couldn't get the tying run across the plate.

Wong's pinch hit homer in the 9th inning was his 2nd of the season.

Boston was just 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left 7 runners on base.

Jake Bennett was the tough-luck losing pitcher or the Red Sox. He allowed 6 hits and 3 runs over 6.1 innings. He struck out 4 and walked 2 as his record slipped to 6-4.

Jovani Moran retired the final 2 batters in the 7th inning. Ryan Watson allowed a run in the 8th inning on 2 hits.

Jahmai Jones, the designated hitter was 1-3 with a double.

Jarren Duran was 2-4.

Prior to the game the Red Sox placed newly-acquired Curtis Mead on the injured list with a wrist injury after being hit by a pitch on Monday night in his 1st game with the Red Sox. Boston called up Nick Sogard.

Boston and the A's will conclude the 3-game series on Wednesday night, with the pregame starting at 8:40 p.m. on WDEA AM 1370.
