The Boston Red Sox beat the A's 4-2 in Sacramento on Wednesday night, when Andruw Monasterio hit a 2-run homer in the 10th inning. The game had been tied at 2-2 since Boston tied the score in the top of the 6th inning.

The homer by Monasterio capped a 3-4 night. It was his 6th homer of the season.

Jahmai Jones homered in the 5th inning for Boston's 1st run of the game. It was his 4th of the season.

Ceddanne Rafaela was 2-5 with a double.

Caleb Durbin was 3-4 and Nick Sogard making his 1st start since being recalled from Worcester after newly-acquired Curtis Mead was placed on the injured list, was 2-5 with a run batted in.

Patrick Sandoval started on the mound for the Red Sox and went 5.0 innings. He allowed 5 hits and 2 runs, striking out 7 and walked 2.

Aroldis Chapman picked up the win and is 2-3. He pitched the 9th innings, striking out 2 and allowing a double. His 2 strike outs came with a runner at 3rd.. It was his 900th career appearance.

Greg Weissert picked up his 1st save, striking out 2 in the 10th inning.

The Red Sox are now 56-51 and are in the 2nd Wild Card spot. They will play the A's in the final game of the 4-game series on Thursday night, with the pregame starting at 8:40 on WDEA AM 1370.
