MDI Girls 54 Central 51
The MDI Girl's Basketball Team improved to 12-1 with a hard fought 54-51 victory over Central in East Corinth on Monday, January 18th
MDI led 12-8 at the end of the 1st Quarter. For MDI Kesley Shaw had 4 points while Maya Watras, Athena Laurendeau, Maddy Candage and Keely McConomy all had 2 points for the Trojans. For Central, Libby Cook, Emma Campbell, Brooke Byers and Emily Smith all had 2 points.
Central outscored MDI in the 2nd Quarter, 20-12 to take a 28-24 lead at the end of the 1st half. Sydney Allen had 9 points for Central including a 3-pointer. Libby Cook had 6 points, Campbell had 4 points and Emily Smith had 1 point for Central. For MDI, Shaw had 5 points, Abbe Miller drained a 3-pointer, and Julia Watras and McConomy each had 2 points.
At the end of the 3rd Quarter, MDI had a 40-35 lead. Abbe Miller had 2 3-pointers for MDI, Mariah Hamor had 4 points, and Candage, Shaw and McConomy all had 2 points. For Central, Emma Campbell had the lone field goal for the Red Devils. Central went 5-8 from the free throw line.
In the 4th Quarter, Sydney Allen had 8 points including 2 3-pointers for Central and Emma Campbell had 6 points. For MDI Shaw had 7 points, and MDI went 8-12 from the free throw line to seal the victory.
MDI, now 12-1 plays host to Presque Isle at 6 PM on Friday, January 22nd and Caribou at 1 PM on Saturday, January 23rd. Both games will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio.
Central is now 5-8 and plays at Old Town on Wednesday, January 20th at 7 PM.
