The game time between the MDI Trojans and Nokomis Warriors was moved up from 1 PM to 12 Noon because of the threat of thunderstorms Saturday afternoon, but the early start didn't bother the Trojans, as they came away with a 20-14 over Nokomis at Newport.

MDI won the toss, and deferred and wanted the ball to start the 2nd half, and kicked off to Nokomis.

MDI ended up scoring first, with 6:42 left in the 1st quarter when Jalique Keene took a hand off and scampered 52 yards for the score. The 2 point conversion was no good, and MDI led 6-0.

Nokomis would come right back and score with 2:07 remaining in the 1st Quarter when Ray Girroir caught a 15 yard pass from Josh King, running into the end zone. Nokomis' initial attempt at the 2 point conversion was no good, but they had jumped offside, and when they moved were moved back 5 yards, they were able to convert the 2 point conversion, and Nokomis led 8-6.

MDI scored again with 9:08 remaining in the 1st half, this time on a 2 yard run. The two point conversion was no good, and that's the way the 1st Half ended, with the Trojans leading 14-8.

Remember when MDI deferred and wanted the ball to start the 2nd half? That decision paid dividends, as Jalique Keene took the kickoff and ran it back 88 yards with 11:49 left in the 3rd Quarter. The Trojans were unable to convert the 2 point conversion, and the score was 20-8.

Nokomis scored with 5:03 remaining in the 3rd Quarter when Joey Marriner powered in from 6 yards out. Nokomis was aided by a pass interference call on MDI and a roughing the passer call as well, to give them automatic first downs. The two point conversion was no good, and MDI led 20-14.

Things got interesting in the 4th Quarter. MDI had a first and goal situation from the 6 yard line, with about 5 minutes left in the game but were unable to convert, and Nokomis took over on the MDI 36 yard line. But Nokomis fumbled and MDI took over on their 25 yard line. With two minutes left, the Trojans fumbled, and the Warriors took over on the MDI 16 yard line. The Trojan defense stiffened, and they took over on downs on their own 9 yard line with less than a minute left to play. One play and a kneel down by Andrew Phelps of MDI, and the Trojans had the 20-14 victory.
