Boston was trailing 4-1 before they scored 2 runs in the top of the 8th when Marcelo Mayer doubled in Caleb Durbin and Isiah Kiner-Falefa with no one out. Jarren Duran grounded out to the right side, allowing Mayer to move to 3rd with 1 out. But Cedanne Rafaela grounded out and Wilyer Abreu then grounded out to end the rally.

Boston is now 1-32 when trailing after 7 innings, and 0-35 when trailing after 8 innings.

Boston managed just 6 hits in the game. Kiner-Falefa was 2-3 with a double. Abreu had a double.

Payton Tolle took the loss for the Red Sox. He went 6.0 inning allowing 9 hits and 3 runs, striking out 3 and walking 1. His record is now 3-3.

Garrett Whitlock was activated from the injured list prior to the game and pitched the 8th inning, allowing a hit and striking out 1.
