#6 Ellsworth Girls Fall to #3 Belfast 5-2 in Class B Softball Quarterfinals

The #6 Ellsworth Girls Softball Team fell to the #3 Belfast Lions 5-2 on Wednesday, June 10th in the Class B North Quarterfinals.

Ellsworth led 1-0 after 2 innings. London Gaspar's single drove in Greenlee Harmon for the Eagle's 1st run.

Belfast scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to take a 2-1 lead.

Ellsworth tied the score in the top of the 4th inning. Harmon reached on an error with 1 out. Jenna Moon bunted her to 2nd base, with Moon reaching 1st base. Gaspar then ground out to shortstop, scoring Harmon, and Moon advancing to 3rd. But the next batter struck out, stranding Moon at 3rd.

Belfast took the lead 4-2, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the 4th, and added an insurance run in the 5th inning, to make it 5-2.

In the 6th inning Ellsworth tried to rally with Cam Clough leading off the inning with a double. But a strikeout, kept Clough at 2nd. Harmon then hit a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Clough to move to 3rd base. But she was stranded as the next batter grounded out to the pitcher.

Cam Clough took the loss for Ellsworth. She allowed 4 hits and 5 runs, 3 of which were earned. She struck out 6 and walked 2.

Clough and Kaylee Bagley each had a double for Ellsworth. Harmon and Gaspar each singled.

Jordyn Mackay picked up the win in the circle for the Lions. She allowed 4 hits and 2 runs, both unearned. She struck out 13 and didn't walk a batter.

Morgan Bonin had a double for Belfast. Kloe Luce, Sophia Larrabee and Maggie Metcalf each singled.

Belfast is now 14-3. They will play the winner of the #2 Gardiner-#7 Presque Isle quarterfinal in the semifinals.

Ellsworth finishes the season with a 8-9 record, losing their last 6 games.
