Ellsworth’s Bridge Hill to Remain Closed Through At Least August 27

Ellsworth's Bridge Hill, a major artery leading to and from Surry and Bucksport will remain closed through at least August 27th.

Amy Kenney, the Communications Director for the City of Ellsworth explained to me via email on Wednesday, August 19th.

Northeast Paving is tentatively scheduled to begin work Monday, August 24, with completion anticipated by Wednesday, August 26. That timeline could change depending on what crews find once the damaged pavement is removed, as well as weather and field conditions.
The road will reopen as soon as paving is complete, the pavement has cooled, and the contractor determines it is safe for traffic.

There was quite a bit of discussion at the council meeting on Monday August 17th about the feasibility of opening the road before paving was complete, and having vehicles drive on gravel, and then pave at a later date. The City was advocating for the pave first and reopen the road after completion strategy, and that is the path that they seem to have adopted.

Let's hope everything goes smoothly and this important passageway can open sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, as you continue with the detours, please remember to drive slowly because the detours take you through neighborhoods and roads that are not used to such increased traffic.
