Trojans Double Up Washington Academy Win 8-4
The MDI Trojans Baseball Team scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd and 4th innings, en route to a 8-4 win over Washington Academy in Bar Harbor on Thursday, May 24th.
Sam Mitchell picked up the win for MDI, throwing 6 innings. He allowed 7 hits and 4 runs, 3 of which were earned. He struck out 4 and didn't walk a batter. Andrew Kennedy pitched the 7th inning, striking out a batter and didn't allow a hit or walk.
Zachary cox took the loss for Washington Academy. He pitched 4 innings giving up 8 hits, and 8 runs, 6 of which were earned. He struck out 1 and walked 5. Taber Helton pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing 2 hits and walking 2.
For MDI Jacob Mitchell was 3-4 and Nick Stanley was 2-4. Alden Fournier had a double. Andrew Kennedy, Brady Renault, Sam Mitchell and Erik Merchant each had a single. Merchant and Mitchell each drove in 2 runs. Fournier, Mitchell and Stanley each had 2 stolen bases, and Merchant swiped 1 bag.
For Washington Academy, Jack Emery was 3-4 and Zain Fitzsimmons was 2-4. Tabor Helton and Ethan Robinson had a single.
MDI, now 10-4 is in 3rd place in the Class B North Heal Points. They have 2 games remaining, as they try to finish in the Top 2, to get a bye and avoid a play-in game. MDI will play host to Old Town on Friday, May 25th at 4:30 PM on Senior Recognition Day. (Note- This game was originally scheduled for Saturday, May 26th at 12 Noon but has been moved to Friday, May 25th.). Then, they will finish the season at Ellsworth on Tuesday, May 29th at 4 PM. The game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.
Washington Academy is 3-11 and finishes the season at home with a game against Foxcroft Academy on Saturday, May 26th at 12 Noon and then against Narraguagus on Wednsday, May 30th at 4 PM.
