The Boston Red Sox beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 on Saturday night, September 14th in Philly, in the start of a brief 2 game series.

Eduardo Rodriguez started for the Red Sox and pitched brilliantly, allowing just 4 hits and 1 run before tiring in the 7th inning after throwing 105 pitches. He struck out 12 and just walked 1.

Josh Taylor came in and struck out the last batter of the 7th. Matt Barnes picked up the win, pitching the 8th and Brandon Workman recorded the save striking out 2 in the 9th inning to preserve the win.

The Red Sox managed only 6 hits off the Philly pitchers. Christian Vazquez had 2 of them including his 25th double of the season.

Andrew Benintendi drove in the winning run in the 9th with a sacrifice fly, scoring Chris Owings.

The Red Sox will take on Philadelphia Sunday afternoon in the final game of the 2 game series. Rick Porcello is scheduled to start for Boston. The pregame starts at 12:05 and 1st pitch at 1:05.
