Ellsworth Falls to Old Town in Semis 53-50

The Ellsworth Eagle's season came to an end on Wednesday, February 19th in the Eastern Maine Class B Semifinals, as the #10 Eagles fell to the #6 Old Town Coyotes 53-50.

Old Town jumped out to a 12-6 1st Quarter lead, as Nick Cowan had 5 points, and Adam Richardson 4 points. Old Town was 6-9 from the free throw line in the 1st Quarter. Ellsworth had 4 points from Nick Bagley on a 3-pointer, but were outrebounded by Old Town, especially on the offensive glass, as Old Town limited Ellsworth to one shot.

Old Town led 24-17 at the half, and for more of the 2nd Quarter were up by double digits. Mitchell Cole had 5 points for Old Town, and Old Town went 2-5 from the free throw line. Ellsworth received 4 points from Griffen Nightingale, and Bruce St. Peter and Bagley had another 3-pointer.

After three quarters, Old Town was up 39-31. Old Town's Mitchell Cole had 7 points including a 3-pointer at the buzzer. Eric Hoogterp had 5 points including a 3 pointer. Steven Mahon had 6 points for Ellsworth, and the Eagles received 3-pointers from Mitchell Domagala and Kyle Golding.

In the 4th Quarter, Ellsworth's Steven Mahon took over offensively, scoring 11 points including a 3 pointer, and Bagley knocked in his third 3-pointer. It was 51-50 with 3.7 seconds remaining and Ellsworth fouled Garvey Melmed who sank both his free throws, and with 3.0 seconds left, Ellsworth's long 3-pointer fell short, and Old Town came away with the victory.

Ellsworth was led by Steven Mahon with a game high 18 points. Nick Bagley had 11 points. Old Town was led by Eric Hoogterp, Nick Cousins and Mitchell Cole, all with 13 points. Ellsworth went 6-11 from the free throw line, while Old Town went 18-30.

Old Town will now play the winner of the Caribou-Hermon semifinal on Saturday, February 22nd.
