The Ellsworth Boys Basketball Team downed Old Town 68-63 on Friday, March 5th in the PVC Class B Pod Semifinals and will host the finals on Tuesday, March 9th.

Ellsworth jumped out to a 19-10 lead in the 1st Quarter. Chance Mercier had 7 points for the Eagles with Eamon MacDonald having 5 points with a 3-pointer. Hunter Curtis had 4 points and Gage Hardy hit a 3-pointer. For Old Town Jacob Corson had 5 points with a 3-pointer, Gabe Gifford had a 3-pointer and Shawn Hoogterp had 2 points.

Ellsworth continued to lead by 12 points at the end of the 1st Half, 31-22. Chance Mercier had 6 points to pace the Eagles, while Michael Palmer added 4 points and Eamon MacDonald 2 points. For the Coyotes, Casey Downs had 4 points and Shawn Hoogterp, Caden Jackson, Jacob Corson and Austin Proudfoot all chipped in 2 points.

In the 3rd Quarter Old Town cut Ellsworth's lead to 7 points, 44-37. Jacob Corson had 8 points to pace the Coyotes. Isaac Hayes had a 3-pointer and Caden Jackson and Casey Downs each had 2 points for Old Town. For Ellsworth Chance Mercier had 6 points, going 4-6 from the free throw line. Michael Palmer drained a 3-pointe and Hunter Curtis and Brody Mercier each had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter Old Town got within 3 points, but couldn't get any closer. Chance Mercier had 9 points for Ellsworth, going 3-5 from the free throw line. Eamon MacDonald had 9 points, including a 3-pointer and 2 key free throws to ice the game with 4.4 seconds left. Hunter Curtis had 4 points and Brett Bragdon and Brody Mercier were each 1-2 from the free throw line. For Old Town Shawn Hoogterp had 10 points with 2 3-pointers. Jacob Corson had 7 points, Gabe Gifford had a 3-pointer and Caden Jackson, Austin Proudfoot and Kyle Paradis each had 2 points.

Ellsworth was led by Chance Mercier with a game high 28 points. Eamon MacDonald had 16 points and Hunter Curtis 10 points. The Eagles were 12-19 from the free throw line.

Old Town was led by Jacob Corson with 22 points while Shawn Hoogterp had 14 points. The Coyotes were 3-7 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth will play the winner of the Orono-Washington Academy semifinal on Tuesday, March 9th at Katsiaficas Gymnasium.
