Playing in his 1st game in New York against the New York Yankees, Roman Anthony batting leadoff went 2-5, driving in 3 runs including a 2-run homer in the 9th inning, as Boston beat New York 6-3 in Thursday, August 21st.

Alex Bregman was 3-5 with a double. Nathaniel Lowe, playing 1st base for Boston , was 1-4, with a double, driving in 2 runs.

Boston had 10 hits in the game, but were only 3-19 with runners in scoring position and left 14 runners on base.

Lucas Giolito started for Boston and went 4.2 innings. He allowed 5 hits and walked 3 and struck out 4. He was charged with 3 runs. Justin Wilson got the final out in the 5th inning, but walked 2 and struck out 1. Greg Weissert pitched 1.1 innings, allowing 1 hit, to pick up the win. He's now 5-4 on the season. Steven Matz retired 2 batters. Garrett Whitlock pitched the 8th inning, holding the Yankees hitless. Aroldis Chapman pitched the 9th inning, picking up his 23rd save of the season.

Prior to the game, the Red Sox designated Abraham Toro for assignment and recalled David Hamilton from Worcester. Hamilton started at 2nd base and was 1-3, walking twice and stealing a base. Boston also put Wilyer Abreu on the 10-Day Injured List, calling up Jhostynxon Garcia, Boston's #3 prospect.

Boston is now 69-59 in 3rd place in the AL East, 5.0 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays and 1/2 game behind the New York Yankees. The Red Sox own the 2nd Wild Card Playoff spot, a 1/2 game behind the Yankees.
