Trojans Shutout Lions 37-0 [PHOTOS]

The MDI Trojans shutout the Belfast Lions 37-0 on Saturday, September 10th in Belfast. MDI is now 2-0 on the season, while Belfast is now 0-2.

MDI took a 6-0 lead with 8:36 left in the 1st Quarter. They took over on their 26 yard line after forcing Belfast to punt. Colby Lee ran the ball from the Trojan 32 yard line, scoring on a 68 yard run. The drive took just 24 seconds, and 2 plays. MDI's 2 point conversion failed.

Belfast took the kickoff to the 18 yard line. MDI's Gus Reeves intercepted a pass by Andrew Akles, the Belfast quarterback and MDI took over at the Belfast 28 yard line with 7:42 remaining in the 1st Quarter. Colby Lee scored his 2nd touchdown of the night, running in from the 18 yard line. The Trojans were successful with the 2 point conversion as Andrew Phelps completed the pass to Lee. The drive took just 1:37 and the MDI Trojans led 14-0.

Belfast took the kickoff back to their 28 yard line, but were forced to punt. MDI's Drew Rich took the punt and ran it back 65 yards, as he was tackled on the Belfast 2 yard line. Croix Albee ran the ball in untouched. Phelps passed the ball to Drew Rich for the 2 point conversion, and with 4:16 left in the 1st Quarter, the Trojans led 22-0.

At the end of the 1st Half, the Trojans had 160 rushing yards and 29 passing yards, while Belfast had 30 yards rushing and 20 yards passing.

The Trojans received the ball in the 3rd Quarter, after having won the opening toss and deferring. MDI took the kick off back to their 43 yard line. With 10:36 left in the 3rd Quarter, Chris Farnsworth ran in from 2 yards out for the touchdown. Drew Rich kicked the extra point, and MDI led 29-0.

With 11:04 remaining in the game, the Trojans took over on their own 20 yard line after Belfast punted.The Trojans scored when Andrew Phelps completed a pass over the middle to Graham Good for 58 yards. Phelps then completed a pass to Rich for the 2 point conversion. That made it 37-0 with 7:03 remaining in the game.

MDI now 2-0 plays at Winslow on Saturday, September 17th at 1 PM. The game will be broadcast on WDEA Internet Radio, as the Boston Red Sox will be playing the New York Yankees in the afternoon. The pregame will begin at 12:40 PM.
