MDI Jazz Bands at States

Mount Desert Island High School’s two Big Bands and five Combos participated in the MMEA State Jazz Festival on Friday and Saturday held at Hampden Academy.  Under the direction of new Music Director Michael Remy, the nearly 40 member team performed new and traditional pieces to enthusiastic audiences.  All 5 Combos and Somes Sound played incredibly against tough competition on Friday and still brought home the hardware!  Congratulations to Sean Beaulieu for earning an Outstanding Musician Award. Combo #12 earned a Gold Award, and Hyper Combo earned a Gold Award and a Second Place Trophy in the “A" Multi Combo Division.  On Saturday night the big band Darth rocked the house and also earned a Gold Award for their performance. It should be noted that Mr. Remy lead all 7 bands with endless energy and has clearly earned the respect and devotion of his musicians and their parents.
