Hermon Stuns MDI 49-39

The MDI Girl's Basketball Team's season came to a crashing halt in the quarterfinals at the Cross Insurance Center, as they were upset by the #7 seeded Hermon Hawks. MDI came into the game badly banged up, without Sierra Tapley who had suffered a season ending injury early against Ellsworth, but also lost senior Keely McConomy to a broken finger this week and were without Athena Laurendau who was recovering from a concussion.

MDI jumped out to a 10-7 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Kelsey Shaw had 6 points, and Maya Watras and Maddy Candage had 2 points each for MDI. For Hermon, Emi Higgins had 3 points and Caitlyn Tracy and Lauren Plissey had 2 points each.

In the 2nd Quarter, Hermon outscored MDI 18-8 to take a 25-18 lead. Hermon was 5-6 from the free throw line as MDI had committed in excess of 10 fouls. Bryanne Crouse had 8 points for Hermon 2ith 2 3-pointers, Higgins had 5 points, Alex Allain had a 3-pointer and Plissey had 2 points for the Hawks. For MDI, Candage had 4 points, Mariah Hamor had 3 points and Shaw had 1 point.

In the 3rd Quarter, Hermon extended their lead to 10 points 36-26. Plissey had 5 points, Higgins 4 points and Allain 2 points for the Hawks. For MDI Shaw had 4 points and Hamor and Maya Watras each had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter, MDI was able to cut the lead to 6 points, but couldn't get any closer. For MDI Abbe Miller had 5 points, Shaw, Hamor, Alexis Clarito and Maddy Good each had 2 points. For Hermon Allessa Oakes had 6 points, Higgins had 3 points, Cloe Raymond had 2 points and Alex Allain had 1 point.

MDI was led by Kelsey Shaw with 13 points while Mariah Hamor had 7 points and Maddy Candage had 6 points. MDI was 7-11 from the free throw line.

Hermon was led by Emi Higgins with 15 points, while Bryanne Crouse and Lauren Plissey each had 9 points. The Hawks were 16-29 from the free throw line.

MDI finishes their season with a 17-2 season. It was the final game for seniors Kelsey Shaw, Keely McConomy, Cassidy Parady and Sierra Tapley.

Hermon is now 12-8. They will play the #3 seed, Presque Isle Wednesday, February 17th at 2:05. Presque Isle defeated John Bapst in the opening game of Tourney '16 51-35
