Ellsworth Girls Basketball “Guts” Out Victory Over MCI Huskies 38-25
Saturday afternoon's victory over the MCI Huskies in Pittsfield was a gut-check for the Ellsworth Girls Basketball Team. The team proved they could win without senior standout Trintity Montigny leading the way, as she picked up 2 quick fouls and then was injured with a blow to the face. Relying on others, the Eagles beat MCI 38-25 on December 14th.
In the 1st Quarter Ellsworth led 9-7. Samantha Carter led the Eagles with 9 points, while Jocelyn Jordan had 3 points and Trinity Montigny 2 points. For the Huskies Sara Linkletter had 3 points and Leah Bussell and Danielle Dow 2 points each.
Ellsworth led 15-13 at the end of the 1st Half. Sara Shea and Autumn Paul had 2 points each, while Montigny and Samantha Carter were each 1-2 from the free throw line. For MCI Dow had 5 points with a 3-pointer and Bussell was 1-2 from the charity stripe.
The game remained a 2 point contest at the end of the 3rd Quarter, with Ellsworth leading 21-19. Jordan, Casey Carter and Samantha Higgins each had 2 points for Ellsworth, while Hannah Robinson had 4 points for MCI and Dow adding 2 more.
In the 4th Quarter Ellsworth broke the game open, outscoring MCI 17-6. Casey Carter who played the majority of the JV game and logged about 28 minutes in the Varsity game had 6 points, with a 3-pointer and going 3-4 from the free throw line. Jordan had 4 points, Carter a 3-pointer and Kylie Robidoux 2 points. Autumn Paul and Trinity Montigny were each 1-2 from the free throw line. For MCI Leah Bussell had 3 points and Jillian Frost was 2e b-2 from the free throw line.
Ellsworth was led by Jocelyn Jordan with 9 points while Casey Carter had 8 points. The Eagles were 10-20 from the free throw line.
MCI was led by Danielle Dow with 9 points and Leah Bussell had 7 points. The Huskies were 8-18 from the free throw line.
Ellsworth, now 2-0 will play host to Orono on Tuesday, December 17th at 7 p.m. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.
