Ellsworth Boys Shocked by Washington Academy 45-43
The Ellsworth Boys Basketball Team was upset at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth 45-43 by the Washington Academy Raiders, on the team's mutual opening game of the 2019-20 season on Wednesday, December 11, 2019
Washington Academy jumped out to a 15-11 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Cecil Gray had 6 points, Evan Ackley had 5 points and Jax Lin 4 points. For Ellsworth Jackson Curtis and Hunter Curtis each had 4 points while Darby Berry hit a 3-pointer.
In the 2nd Quarter Ellsworth outscored Washington Academy 15-10 to take a 26-25 into the locker room at the end of the 1st Half. Jackson Curtis had 13 points for Ellsworth, hitting 2 3-pointers. Hunter Curtis added Ellsworth's other 2 points. Gray had 2 3-pointers for the Raiders and Lin had 4 points.
In the 3rd Quarter Washington Academy outscored Ellsworth 13-7 to take a 38-33 lead. Ackley had 6 points for the Raiders, Lin added a 3-pointer and Daniel Huang and Gray each had 2 points. For Ellwsorth Jackson Curtis had 3 points and J'von James scored his first points as an Eagle, while Berry added 2 points.
In the 4th Quarter Ellsworth kept chipping away at the lead, but weren't able to close the gap beyond the 2 point final. Connor Crawford and Hunter Curtis each had 4 points for Ellsworth while Jackson Curtis had 2 points. For Washington Academy Andon Wood wsas 3-4 from the free throw line and Huang and Gray each had 2 points.
Ellsworth was led by Jackson Curtis with a game high 22 points while Hunter Curtis had 10 points. The Eagles were 6-8 from the free throw line.
Washington Academy put 3 players in double figures : Gray with 16 points and Lin and Ackley with 11 points each. The Raiders were 9-13 from the free throw line.
