The Ellsworth Eagles defeated the George Stevens Academy Eagles 59-52 in the Battle of the Eagles in Blue Hill on Saturday night, February 2, 2019. It was Ellsworth 1st victory in GSA since 2011!

Ellsworth and GSA were tied at 14-14 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Devin Grindle buried 2 3's from the left corner for 6 points. Darby Barry had a 3-pointer and Hunter Curtis and Jackson Curtis each had 2 points while Norman Jodrey was 1-2 from the free throw line. For GSA Reece Dannenberg and Pecy Zentz had 5 points each, each with a 3-pointer and Andrew Szwez had 4 points.

In the 2nd Quarter Ellsworth outscored GSA 16-6 to take a 30-20 lead at the end of the 1st Half. Grindle had 2 more 3's for 6 points, Barry had 5 points including another 3-pointer. Austin Harris and Jackson Curtis each had 2 points while Hunter Curtis was 1-2 from the free throw line. For GSA Isaac Wardwell, Szwez and Zentz each had 2 points.

In the 3rd Quarter Ellsworth outscored GSA 15-9 to increase their lead to 16 points, 45-29. Norman Jodrey had 6 points, Jackson Curtis had 5 points including a 3-pointer and Hunter Curtis had 4 points. For GSA Wardwell had 4 points, Danneberg had another 3-pointer and Szwez had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter GSA cut the lead to 6 points, but Ellsworth hit their free throws when they counted, despite GSA outscoring Ellsworth 23-14. For GSA Szwez had 8 points, Dannenberg sank 2 3's for 6 points. Wardwell had 4 points, Zentz 3 points and Caden Mattson 2 points. For Ellsworth Austin Harris had 6 points, going 4-7 from the free throw line. Jackson Curtis had 4 points, with a 3-pointer and 1-2 from the free throw line. Hunter Curtis had 3 points, including 1-2 from the free throw line and Devin Grindle was 1-2 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth was led by Devin Grindle and Jackson Curtis, each with 13 points. Hunter Curtis had 10 points. Ellsworth was 11-23 from the free throw line.

GSA was led by Andrew Szwez wiht a game high 16 points, while Reece Danneberg had 14 points. Isaac Wardwell and Percy Zentz each had 10 points. GSA was 1-7 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth, now 12-5 and appears to be locked in for the 4th seed in the Class B North Heal Points, which would give them an automatic bye and avoid a prelim game. Ellsworth has 1 game remaining, at home on Thursday, February 7th against MDI, which will be Senior Recognition Night. The pregame will start at 6:30 with the opening tip at 7. GSA is 14-2 with a huge game at Mattanawcook Academy on Tuesday February 5th and then closes out the regular season at home, on Senior Recognition Night against Narraguagus on Thursday, February 7th.
