Payton Tolle Fans 14 In Red Sox 13-1 Blowout At Fenway Park

The Boston Red Sox beat the Athletics 13-1 on Friday night, August 7th at Fenway Park as Payton Tolle struck out 14 in 6.0 innings and the Red Sox' bats pounded out 15 hits. The win was Boston's 9th straight and the Red Sox are a season-high 13 games over .500

Boston is 18-3 since the All-Star break, 27-3 since July 3rd and 32-5 since June 25th when they turned their season around.

Tolle set a career-high in strikeouts, with 14. He improved his record to 7-6 allowing just 2 hits and 1 run in 6.0 innings. He's the 1st Red Sox pitcher to have 14 strikeouts since Chris Sale did it on May 14, 2019.

Raymond Burgos, just called up when the Red Sox optioned Greg Weissert to Worcester, made his 2nd career Major League appearance, pitching 3.0 innings to earn his 1st save. He struck out 2 and didn't allow a hit or walk.

The Red Sox scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning, sending 9 batters to the plate. Jarren Duran hit a 2-run homer in the 2nd inning. It was his 16th of the season, and 3rd in his last 5 games.

Wilyer Abreu was 2-2 with a 2-run double in the 2nd inning. He ended up with 3 runs batted in.

Jake Rogers, newly acquired from the Orioles started at catcher and was 2-3 with a pair of doubles and drove in a run, in the 2nd inning.

Masataka Yoshida was 2-4 with a double and drove in 2 runs and Andruw Monasterio was 2-4 with a run batted in. He now has a 19-game on-base-streak, which is a career-long.
