Collin’s 1st Weekend on the Trail [PHOTOS]
For those of you who are following along, my 23 year old son Collin started his journey on the Appalachian Trail from Georgia heading back to Bangor on Friday, March 13th. He's now made it three days in, and done very well!
He experienced his first bit of Trail Magic Sunday afternoon. Trail magic is when strangers perform random acts of kindness on the Appalachian Trail. It could be a six pack of beer in a river with a piece of rope tied to a tree. Today he and his hiking buddies came across a campfire where someone had dropped off hotdogs and beer. I bet he never thought that Milwaukee's Best beer would ever taste so good.
After two days of rain, they finally had a nice day of weather
As a matter of fact, he got a little sunburned today! While we were having snow and freezing ice throughout the day, Collin cooled off in a creek soothing his feet!
Compare that to a rainy cold Saturday
Here's his home for the past couple of nights
Days have been good, nights are tougher, but he's looking forward to getting to a bit of civilization on Monday. He'll have a chance to do a little restocking, shed some clothes he doesn't need and maybe sleep in a hostel.

You've done great Collin! Keep on walking until you can't walk anymore! We love you and are very proud of you!
