The Backside Blast kicked off a 3-day celebration in Bass Harbor, Tremont and Southwest Harbor and it certainly lived up to it's name on Friday, June 26th.

The festivities started at Archie's Lobster in Bass Harbor with a lobster feed , music from the band "Bullseye" and the Pollock Frolic!

Now the Pollock Frolic was a relay race for kids and adults. Teams of 4 had to dress up as a fisherman complete with boots, pants, slicker and gloves and carry a pollock from one end to the other. Then they had to undress, and a teammate took over. Back and forth, back and forth and there was lots and lots of cheering and laughter.

Truth be told I was caught up in the excitement and fun and thought once or twice about participating, but then common sense prevailed, and also I realized that the Southwest Harbor-Tremont ambulance wasn't on standby!

Check out the photos from the night. If you missed it, circle Friday June 25, 2027 on your calendar, as that's the date for the 4th Annual Backside Blast.

On Saturday the 27th there's a car show, pig roast and live music featuring Matt and the Barnburners at Gordius Garage in Bass Harbor. The party starts at 10 a.m. and music at noon.

On Sunday, it's the 17th Annual Bass Harbor Lobster Boat Races on the town dock with breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 and races beginning at 10 a.m. Registration is from 8 to 9 a.m.
