Bogaerts Blasts 2 Homers – Red Sox Beat Rockies 7-4 [VIDEO]
The Boston Red Sox beat the Colorado Rockies Wednesday night, August 28th, sweeping the quick 2 game series in Colorado 7-4. Xander Bogaerts blasted 2 homers, his 29th and 30th of the season, driving in 3 runs.
Bogaerts ended up 3-4 adding a double to his 2 homers. He's the 1st Red Sox shortstop with 30 homers and 100 RBI's since Nomar Garciaparra did it in 1998
JD Martinez hit his 32nd homer, a 2 run shot in the 3rd inning, and Rafael Devers hit his 28th homer of the season, a solo shot in the 9th inning.
Devers and Bogaerts each had 3 hits on the night, while Martinez and Christian Vazquez had 2 hits each.
The top 4 in the batting line-up Mookie Betts, Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts and JD Martinez were 9-19 with 6 runs batted in.
Meanwhile on the mound Eduardo Rodriguez picked up his career high16th win of the season. He went 5 innings allowing 9 hits and 3 runs, striking out 5 and walking 3.
Josh Taylor pitched a scoreless 6th inning, Marcus Walden allowed 1 run in the 7th inning and Matt Barnes and Brandon Workman pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th inning respectively. Workman earned his 9th save of the season, striking out the side in the 9th.
The win allowed the Red Sox to pick up a game in their chase for the final wild card spot. They're now 5 games out, with their "tragic number" to elimination at 25.
