Transport Security Administration (TSA) agents are essential workers. Everyone is required to undergo TSA screening at all airports, and Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport is no different.

With the stalemate regarding funding for the Department of Homeland Security, TSA agents are required to work but are not getting paid. They missed their first full paycheck on March 13, and their previous paycheck was a partial paycheck as all their deductions for April, such as insurance, etc., were taken out of it. With Congress deadlocked, there is a really good chance they will miss their next paycheck at the end of the month.

I'm not sure about you, but I am pretty sure that most of us would not be in a good position if we missed one or two paychecks, especially if we were being paid bi-weekly.

There are seven TSA workers at the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport in Trenton. Because they are government employees, there are limits on what they can accept and how they can accept things.

  1. They cannot accept anything directly.
  2. They cannot accept cash.
  3. They can only accept a gift card for a maximum of $20.00 in value, and the gift card must be from a grocery store such as Hannaford, Shaw's or Walmart.
  4. They may accept multiple cards, but these cards must be given to a supervisor who will distribute them.

Given those limitations, those interested in donating may purchase a gift card from Hannaford, Shaw's, or Walmart, not to exceed $20. You can drop them off anytime at Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport with Emily at the Hertz Desk, or at the Cape Air desk,  or you can drop them off at Edwards Brothers Supermarket in Trenton, across from the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport on Saturday, March 28, from 10 to 1, when WDEA will be broadcasting live. If it's easier for you, I will be collecting cash on March 28 from 10 to 1 and then converting the cash to grocery gift cards to distribute to the 7 TSA  Agents serving the Hancock County Bar Harbor Airport.

This is NOT a political post. This is just a post about taking care of 7 TSA Agents, without whom, the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport would not be able to operate.

For over 25 years, I have marveled at how people in Downeast Maine take care of loved ones and people that they know. I hope you will help me help these 7 TSA Agents.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Maine's 10 Busiest Airports

Maine's aviation connection is mostly considered by two entities, the Portland Jetport and the Bangor International Airport.

These two facilities unquestionably handle the bulk of the commercial aviation in state. However, there are a number of smaller airports that also help ship people in and out of Maine.

Here is a look at the 10 busiest airports in Maine.

The information used comes from 2024 FAA Statistics.
