Ellsworth Police to Conduct OUI Checkpoints Weekend of July 31

You should never drive while under the influence of any kind. That's a given. This weekend, beginning on July 31st, the Ellsworth Poilice Department
announced that they would be conducting OUI Checkpoints and Enforcement Details over the weekend of July 31-August 2

The sobriety checkpoints are funded by grants from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety

The Ellsworth Police Department will be assisted from officers from the Bar Harbor Police Department, Hancock Sheriff's Department and the Southwest Harbor Police Department as part of a District 7 RIDE Team OUI enforcement.

For a DUI checkpoint to be valid, law enforcement must advertise that they will be setting up the checkpoint prior to doing so. The general idea is that if a member of the public knows about the checkpoint, they have the option of avoiding it. If they choose not to avoid it, then they have consented to the minimal intrusion created by the DUI checkpoint
