Local Lady Leaps Into Action Stopping Runaway Car In Hancock Last Week: Check Out The Video!
Some people just end up being in the right place at the right time. Tracy Weed from Lamoine is one of those people. Strange things just seem to pop up when Tracy's around.
A few years back, she was quietly crocheting in her car at her favorite spot overlooking Marlboro Beach in Lamoine.
She looked out to catch a glimpse of not one but two trucks getting caught up in the waves on that day.

This past week, Weed was coming home from running errands in Ellsworth, when yet encountered another odd experience.
Weed, who typically works on Tuesdays, happened to have that day off. So she went out by herself early to Ellsworth to get some things. As she was driving back to Lamoine, about 9:30 AM, she came up to the spot where the DC Towing and Recovery Shop sits at 226 US Route 1 in Hancock.
She spotted a vehicle, circling the road going backwards.
"That car rolled out in front of me with no driver...I slammed on my brakes,
car behind me pulled to the right of me."
Narrowly missing getting hit, Weed and the driver in the car behind her pulled up ahead, out of harm's way, to assess the situation.

Weed, who's lived in Lamoine for almost two decades, and is a Firefighter for the town of Hancock decided she needed to act to keep others safe.
"I was worried that there was a child in the car, so I did what any mom would,
I jump in car and stopped it, no child thank goodness!!"
Weed said the man inside came flying out under the impression, at first, that she was trying to steal his car. But when she explained what had happened, he immediately expressed his appreciation.
"At first he wanted to know 'what’s going on?!' not happy at all , until I told him what happened, then he kept saying thank you."
While no one in the shop across the street knew what was going down outside, according to Leroy Worden who owns DC Towing, when they reviewed their security cameras, they realized they had captured the entire situation on camera.
Weed says from the video, it looks like the owner of the runaway vehicle had driven out of his driveway to leave his home, which sits across the street from the towing company, but then reversed back up the driveway and hopped out (perhaps to retrieve something inside) and forgot that he was still in gear.
Once the vehicle was stopped, and the situation explained, Weed said she was in a bit of shock.

"I hopped out and went back to my car, sat there for a while wondering what I just did."
Both Weed and Worden say they're glad no one was injured during the incident, Weed even joking that she's no stranger to bizarre situations like this.
'"This stuff can only happen to me!! "
Maybe it happens to you, Tracy, because you don't overthink it, you just jump into action and save the day. That's what moms and firefighters do, right.
Well done, lady. Well done.
