Atter a 22 minute rain delay, the Boston Red Sox lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 on Thursday night, May 14th as Kyle Schwarber broke a scoreless tie golfing a 2-run homer over the Red Sox's bullpen in the 8th inning.

It's the 12th time that the Red Sox have scored 1 or no runs in their 43 games this season, including in 3 of their last 4 games.

Ranger Suarez started the game for Boston and went 5.1 innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 8, walking 1.

Justin Slated retired the last 2 batters in the 6th inning.

Manager Chad Tracy then brought in Garrett Whitlock in for the 7th inning rather than his normal 8th inning. Whitlock retired the side in order, striking out 2. He then brought in rookie Tyler Samaniego in, for the 8th to face the top of the order. Samaniego hadn't allowed a run, but gave up 2 on Schwarber's blast.

Andru Monasterio was 2-4 with a pair of doubles for Boston.

Wilyer Abreu was 2-4, driving in Boston's lone run in the 8th inning.
