To say that pizza lovers were bummed this summer is an understatement.

While the pandemic was easing and summer was approaching earlier this year, pizza lovers in Downeast Maine were looking forward to another season of Rosalie's in Bar Harbor. After all, some of the sweetest tasting pizza in the area certainly would make a day trip to the Island even more anticipated.

Last summer, with the nasty COVID-19 pandemic raging on, Rosalie's, like many other area restaurants provided take-out service only.

Rosalie's has that old-time pizzeria atmosphere going for it.  With music playing in the background by Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison, old wooden floors and walls with memorabilia attached, and an open view of those making the pies while putting them into the oven that only adds to the experience.

One of this author's favorite things to do is to sit in the window on the second floor and watch the people walk by while biting into a pizza loaded with pepperoni, green pepper, and onions.

Although this year, that didn't happen.

It was announced before the summer that Rosalie's would not be opening for the season because of a family health problem, and then disappointment set in.

But according to an article in the Mount Desert Islander, the popular summertime pizzeria on Cottage Street in Bar Harbor will be open in the spring of 2022, and we think that's great.

We wish owner Rick Crowe a complete recovery and of course only the very best, just like his pizza.
