MDI Girls Ground Hawks 44-40 [PHOTOS]
The MDI Girls Basketball Team handled the Hermon Hawks their 2nd loss of the season, beating the Hawks 44-40 in Bar Harbor on Tuesday, January 29th.
Hermon jumped out to a 13-8 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Caitlin Tracy had 8 points for Hermon, Madison Curtis had a 3-pointer and Paige Plissey 2 points. For MDI Hannah Chamberlain had a 3-pointer, Julia Watras and Rachelle Swanson each had 2 points and Maddy Candage was 1-2 from the free throw line.
In the 2nd Quarter MDI outscored Hermon 14-9 and the score was tied at the end of the 1st Half 22-22. Julia Watras and Alexis Clarito each had 5 points for MDI, with Clarito draining a 3-pointeer. Leah Carroll and Hannah Chamberlain each had 2 points. For Hermon Brooke Cowan had 5 points with a 3-pointer and Tracy and Grace Page each had 2 points.
The score remained tied at the end of the 3rd Quarter 32-32. For MDI Hannah Chamberlain had 8 points, with 2 3's and Julia Watras 2 points. For Hermon Madison Curtis had 6 points, and Caitlin Tracy 4 points.
In the 4th Quarter, MDI trailed by 4 points, but came back for the win. Maddy Candage, celebrating her 18th birthday, scored 6 points, Watras 4 and Clarito 2 for the Trojans. For Hermon Curtis had 2 3's for 6 points and Cowan 2 points.
MDI was led by Hannah Chamberlain and Julia Watras with 13 points each. The Trojans were 4-6 from the free throw line.
Hermon was led by Madison Curtis with a game high 15 points while Caitlin Tracy had 14 points. Hermon was 2-3 from the free throw line.
With the win, MDI is now 13-2 and in 1st place in the Class B Girls North Heal Point standings. The Trojans had 3 games remaining, at Orono on Thursday, January 31, at home against Foxcroft Academy on Senior Recognition Night on Monday February 4th and at Ellsworth on Wednesday, February 6th. All games will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.
Hermon, now 12-2 has 4 games remaining. They play at Foxcroft Academy on Thursday, January 31st, at home against Presque Isle on Saturday, February 2nd and on Monday, February 4th against John Bapst. The Hawks end the season on Thursday, February 7th at the Cross Insurance Center against John Bapst.
