MDI Girls Beat Ellsworth 16-2

The MDI and Ellsworth Girl's Softball teams concluded their regular season with a game at Ellsworth, and the MDI Girls outslugged Ellsworth by the score of 16-2.

MDI scored 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning. Shelby O'Neil singled to start the game, and then Sierra Myrick lined out to the Ellsworth pitcher, Megan Hunt for the 1st out of the inning. Molly Carroll doubled and drove in O'Neil for the 1st run of the game. Hannah Shaw singled, moving Carroll over to 3rd base, and then Avalon Kerley singled driving in Carroll and Shaw.

MDI added 5 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Darcy Kanu reached on an error by the Ellsworth 3rd baseman, and then went to 3rd, on Haley Littlefield's bunt. Kanu scored when O'Neil reached on an error by the Ellsworth 2nd baseman. A passed ball scored Littlefiled, and O'Neil went to 3rd. O'Neil scored on a double by Molly Carroll. Hannah Shaw walked, and Carroll and Shaw scored on Kerley's second single of the game, giving her 4 RBI's after two innings.

MDI added another run in the top of the 3rd inning. Darcy Kanu was hit by a pitch, and stole 2nd and 3rd bases. She then scored on a single by Shelby O'Neil.

Ellsworth scored their 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Leah Stevens reached on an error on the MDI pitcher, and then went to 2nd base on a single by Katherine Jordan..Emily Berry reached on a MDI shortstop error, scoring Stevens, and then Jordan scored on a single by Callie Hammer. That made the score MDI 9 Ellsworth 2 after 3 innings.

MDI scored 7 runs in the top of the 5th inning, as they sent 10 batters to the plate. Darcy Kanu was hit by a pitch, and then stole 2nd and 3rd bases. Haley Littlefield walked and then Shelby O'Neil walked loading the bases. Sierra Myrick reached on a fielder's choice, and on an error on the Ellsworth 2nd baseman, Littlefield and O'Neil scored. Myrick then stole 2nd base, and Molly Carroll hit her third double of the game, driving in Myrick for her third RBI of the game as well. Hannah Shaw walked, and Avalon Kerley singled, loading the bases. Ali Bierman was hit by the pitch, scoring Carroll. Darcy Kanu then doubled, clearing the bases, as Carroll, Shaw and Kerley all scored.

MDI finishes the regular season 11-6, and Ellsworth finishes the season 3-13 and are out of the playoffs.
