Representatives from Jackson Laboratory, State and Local Government celebrated the ribbon cutting of the new Charles E. Hewett Center in Ellsworth on Thursday, August 23rd.

The facility, named in honor of Dr. Charles E. Hewett, the Executive Vice President and former Chief Operating Officer at Jackson Laboratory is expected to create 350 full time jobs in Ellsworth, and 135 new jobs in Bar Harbor, following the 5 to 10 year build-out.

As production capacity moves from Bar Harbor to Ellsworth, Jackson Laboratory plans to grow the Research and JAX Genomic Eductation programs on the Bar Harbor campus.

The new facility is expected to create an estimated $544 million in economic activity between 2018 and 2026
