Island Explorer Sets 2022 Schedules

After not running in 2020 because of the pandemic, and running a reduced schedule last year, the Island Explorer has announced their 2022 Schedule and it's good news for those craving a "return to normalcy".

As of now, March 16th, masks are still required for anyone riding the fare-free Island Explorer or waiting at the bus stops.

The Island Explorer will operate on Mount Desert Island June 23 through October 10, 2022. Fall service begins August 31, 2022.

On Schoodic Peninsula, spring service will begin on May 25, summer service will begin on June 23, and fall service will run from August 31 through October 10.

in 2022 there will be 13 routes.

There will be special 4th of July routes. (As of March 16th the page was under construction)

Covers the Campgrounds to the Bar Harbor Village Green

Eden Street
Operating between the Village Green with stops at the College of the Atlantic, Atlantic Oceanside, Ferry Terminal, Regency, Bar Harbor Motel and Acadia Inn

Sand Beach
Sand Beach buses travel inbound between the Jackson Laboratory and the Bar Harbor Village Green via Cromwell Harbor Road and Eagle Lake Road. Buses do not operate in Bar Harbor on lower Main Stree

Loop Road
Offers service every 20 minutes. The last Loop Road bus departs the Visitor Center at 5 p.m. and departs Sand Beach at 5:35 p.m.

Jordan Pond
Runs every 30 minutes with the 1st bus departing the Visitor Center at 9 a.m. and the last bus leaving at 4:30 p.m. The last bus leaves Jordon Pond at 4:55 p.m. and will arrive at the Visitor Center at 5:20 p.m.

Northeast Harbor
This bus operates from the Village Green to MDI High School and Brown Mountain arriving at the Northeast Harbor Pier. It then goes to Jordan Pond and goes back to the Pier in Northeast Harbor, Brown Mountain, MDI High School and the Village Green in Bar Harbor

Southwest Harbor
With stops at the Village Green, MDI High School, Mount Desert Campground, Somesville, Echo Lake, Smuggler's Den Campground, Main Street Southwest Harbor, Manset Dock, Seawall Campground

Operating between Winter Harbor, the Bar Harbor Inn pier, Campground, Schoodic Point, Birch Harbor, and Prospect Harbor

Trenton
The first trip from the Gateway Center is at 8 a.m. with stops at the Hancock County Airport, Narrows Too, Bar Harbor Kampground of America, Teramor, Town Hill, MDI High School and Village Green. The last bus leaves the Village Green at 8:15 p.m. and arrives at the Gateway Center at 8:57 p.m.

Blackwoods
Traveling between the Village Green, Sieur de Monts and the Blackwoods Campground. The 1st bus leaves the Village Green at 9 a.m. with the last bus leaving at 4:30 p.m. The 1st bus leaves the Campground at 9:30 a.m. with the last bus leaving at 4:50 p.m.
