The Southwest Harbor Select Board announced Tuesday night, July 23rd that they had signed a contract with Karen Reddersen to be the new Town Manager effective September 18th. She will replace Marilyn Lowell who is retiring on September 30th.

Lowell will mentor Redderson for the last 12 days of September.

Redderson was the Area Extension Director for Cooperative Extension at the University of Maryland. In that position she managed 40 staff and faculty who provided services in five counties. She was responsible for presenting budgets and securing funding for the Cooperative Extension in towns and counties. She also worked closely and partnered with state, federal and nonprofit organizations.

Prior to that she worked for the City of Salsbury Maryland as Assistant Director of Internal Services in which she managed human resource functions and procurement including preparation and management of bids and contracts

Ms. Reddersen has a Master of Science Degree in Applied Management from the University of Maryland. She is also certified by the Society for Human Resource Management as a Senior Professional in Human Resources.

Ms. Reddersen and her husband have recently bought land in Southwest Harbor. They have two adult children, one in college.

The Board is excited to have a town manager living in Southwest Harbor, the first time since Ken Minier was Town Manager.
