It was a long day for members of the Mount Desert Fire Department who were toned out shortly before 6 AM on Thursday May 11th to fight a fire on the Sand Point Road in Mount Desert. Crews were just leaving the scene at 3:30 PM and at 5 PM they were still at the fire station cleaning gear from the fire.

According to the Mount Desert Islander a fisherman called in the fire at 5:40 this morning after seeing flames. The art studio was destroyed but the fire crews from Mount Desert, Southwest Harbor, Tremont and Bar Harbor were able to insure that the house was not impacted by the fire.

Representatives from the State Fire Marshall's Office were on scene Thursday afternoon.
