Ellsworth Softball Walks Off with 5-4 Win Over John Bapst
The Ellsworth Softball Team needed a win in the worst way, after dropping their last 3 games, and they capitalized, winning the game against the John Bapst Crusaders in Ellsworth on Monday, May 21st in a walk off fashion, by a score of 5-4.
Ellsworth won the game when Mariah Young singled on a 2-2 count with 2 out to score Hannah Sargent and drive in the winning run in the bottom of the 7th. Sargent had tripled with 1 out in the inning.
Mackenzie Chipman picked up the win for Ellsworth, allowing 11 hits. She struck out 8 and didn't walk a batter.
Kayla Massey took the loss for John Bapst. She allowed 11 hits, striking out 8 and walking 5.
Hannah Sargent was 3-3 with a triple for Ellsworth.Mariah Young was 3-4 with 3 runs batted in. Sara She was 2-4. Mara Pickering had a double and Katelynn Bagley, and Katie Hammer each had a single. Sargent had 3 stolen bases, and Bagley, Hammer, Stevens, Young and Shea each swiped a bag.
For John Bapst Jasmine McCullough had 2 doubles, and Hallie Rockress had a a double. Lacey Scanlon, and Emilee Soucie each had 2 singles. Regina Cambria, Kayla Massey, Jasmine Cheney and Makenzie Handley each had a single for the Crusaders.
Ellsworth, now 5-8 will play at Bucksport on Tuesday, May 22nd at 4 PM
John Bapst, 3-7 plays host to Washington Academy on Tuesday, May 22nd at 4:30 PM.
