The Boston Red Sox fell to the New York Yankees 1-0 on Friday night, August 28th at Yankee Stadium as a pair of baserunning blunders by Ceddanne Rafaela came back to bite them.

In the 5th inning, with Willson Contreras on-deck, and 1 out Wilyer Abreu hit a flyball to center field. Rafaela, the trailing runner on 1st was doubled off when he went too far off the bag for an inning-ending double play.

In the 7th inning with Rafaela on third, and a runner at 2nd with 1 out, Willson Contreras hit a flyball to short left field. Rafaela tagged, daring Cody Bellinger to make a perfect throw to the plate. Bellinger did, uncorking a 99.7 miile per hour throw, to gun down Rafaela at the plate for the inning-ending double play.

Boston only had 5 hits in the game. Rafaela and Contreras each had 2 hits and Wilyer Abreu had a double.

Patrick Sandoval pitched 5.1 innings. He allowed just 3 hits and 1 run, striking out 7 and walking 4. Greg Weissert, Tyron Guerrero and Wyatt Olds closed out the game holding the Yankees hitless and striking out 4 without walking a batter.

Boston was 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base.
