Red Sox Beat Mariners In 10 Innings With Walkoff Single

The Boston Red Sox were trailing the Seattle Mariners 8-5 with 6 outs to play on Monday, August 31st. Boston scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th and 1 in the 9th inning to send the game into extra innings and won in the 10th 9-8.It was Boston's 5th walk-off win, and 34th come-from-behind win.

Trevor Story was 2-5 with a 2-run double tying the game in the 8th and hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning.

Roman Anthony was 2-4. He hit a triple in the 9th inning and scored on a fly ball to left field, with an incredible swim-slide to tie the game. He also doubled.

Mickey Gaspar, recalled when Willson Contreras was placed on the 10-day injured list, hit a solo homer in the bottom of the 1st inning. It was his 6th homer in his last 12 games. Gaspar hit .400 in August, going 12-30.

Ceddanne Rafaela was 2-4 with 3 runs batted in.

Boston wasted a strong start from Payton Tolle who pitched 5.2 innings. He allowed 6 hits and 4 runs, striking out 6 and walking 2.

Tyron Guerrero was charged with 3 runs on 3 hits, recording just a out in the 6th inning. Erik Miller allowed a hit and run in an inning pitched, striking out 2. Alex Gamboa pitched 2 innings of relief, allowing just a hit. Aroldis Chapman earned the win, striking out 2 in the 10th inning. He's now 3-4.

Boston is now 75-63 and picked up a full game on the Yankees and Rays who both lost on Monday night.
