MDI Falls to Orono 16-0 In Exhibition Game with Game Stopped at Halftime because of Lightning [STATS]

The MDI-Orono exhibition football game in Orono was cut short with 3:08 left to play in the 1st half because of lightning on Friday, August 28th. Orono was leading 16-0.

With multiple lightning strikes in the area, the game was called after a 30-minute delay, as it would have been at least a hour before the teams would be able to get back on the field, which would necessitate a warm-up period.

Orono scored on a couple of long pass plays. The first score came with 6:11 left in the 1st Quarter on a 54 yard touchdown pass from Cooper Brown to Richie Watson. The 2nd came with 11:48 left to play int he 1st half, on Brown's 70 yard touchdown pass to Eli Schaff.

MDI opens the regular season on Friday, September 4th at Mt. Ararat in Topsham. That game will be broadcast on WDEA Internet Radio with the kickoff scheduled for 7 p..m. and our pregame starting at 6:40 p.m. The game may also be heard on the free downloadable WDEA APP and on any Alexa enabled device.

Orono will open the season at home against cross-town rival Old Town on Friday, September 4th at 7 p.m. Old Town will be playing their 1st year as an 8-man football team, having dropped down from 11-man.
