Red Sox Fall To Yankees 9-2 In Doubleheader Nightcap

The Boston Red Sox lost to the New York Yankees 9-2 in Saturday night's doubleheader nightcap. The season-long series is now tied at 6-6 with Sunday's game set to be the tie-breaker.

The tie-breaker is so important, because if the Red Sox and Yankees end the season with the same record, the winner of the season series wins the tie-breaker!

Alex Gamboa started for the Red Sox, and pitched 1.1 innings, allowing a hit and striking out 1. Brayan Bello took the loss and is now 5-7. He pitched 4.1 innings allowing 5 hits and 4 runs. He struck out 2 and walked 1. Raymond Burgos who was called up as the 27th player for the doubleheader pitched the final 2.1 innings allowing 7 hits and 5 runs, striking out 2.

Nick Sogard homered for Boston, a solo shot in the 3rd inning. It was his 3rd homer of the season.

Wilyer Abreu was 1-3 with a double and Willson Contreras was 1-2 with a triple.

Boston only had 6 hits. They were 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position and left 7 runners on base.

Boston will be potentially getting some reinforcements prior to the final game with the Yankees this afternoon. Roman Anthony and Trevor Story both finished their rehab with Worcester and were traveling to New York on Saturday evening.
