Ellsworth Girls Overcome Beat Washington Academy 40-23
The Ellsworth Girls Basketball Team was without 2 of their normal starters on Tuesday, January 7th, but used a total team effort to beat the Washington Academy Raiders 40-23 in East Machias.
Trinity Montigny and Sierra Andrews were unavailable for Ellsworth, but the Eagles went out to a 7-4 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Casey Carter and Sara Shea each had 2 points while Jocelyn Jordan was 2-2 from the free throw line and Kylie Robidoux 1-2. For the Raiders Raenah Reynolds had 2 points and Emma Griffin and Lucy Kilton each were 1-2 from the free throw line.
In the 2nd Quarter Ellsworth outscored Washington Academy 11-6 to take a 18-10 lead at the end of the 1st Half. Casey Carter had 6 points for the Eagles. Morgan Clifford drained a 3-pointer and Samantha Carter had 2 points. For the Raiders Kilton had 4 points and Riley Fraser 2 points.
In the 3rd Quarter Ellsworth increased their lead, outscoring Washington Academy 12-8 to take a 30-18 lead at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Autumn Paul had 6 points for Ellsworth, Jocelyn Jordan 4 points and Kylie Robidoux 2 points. For the Raiders Frser had 6 points, going 2-4 from the free throw line while Reynolds had 2 points.
In the 4th Quarter Alicia Kelley had 4 points for Ellsworth, with Kayla Duhaime, Kylie Robidoux and Sara Shea each chipping in 2 points. For Washington Academy, Reynolds had a 3-pointer, and Emma Griffina and Lucy Kilton were each 1-2 from the free throw line.
Ellsworth was led by Casey Carter with 8 points, while Autumn Paul and Jocelyn Jordan each had 6 points. The Eagles were 5-7 from the free throw line.
Washington Academy was led by Riley Fraser with 8 points while Raenah Reynolds had 7 points. The Raiders were 6-12 from the free throw line.

Washington Academy is 1-8 and plays at Calais on Thursday, January 9th at 6:30 p.m.
