The forecast for the Ellsworth - Washington Academy game was for rain, as in raining 3's and that was certainly the case as Ellsworth poured in 12 3-pointers and came away with a 62-59 victory over Washington Academy in a game played at Washington Academy on Tuesday, February 5th.

Ellsworth led 19-14 at the end of the1st Quarter. Griffin Nightingale hit 3 3's for Ellsworth, while Nick Bagley had 5 points including a 3 pointer and Steven Mahon had 5 points including a 3. Washington Academy was led by Gage Feeney with 6 points in the 1st Quarter, Austin Seavey had 6 points and Jacob Schoppee had 2 points.

At the end of the 1st Half, Ellsworth led 36-33.Steven Mahon scored 10 more points for Ellsworth, including 2 3's in the 2nd Quarter to give him 15 points. Josh Bean scored 5 points in the 2nd Quarter going 3-4 from the free throw line. For Washington Academy, Fred MacLean scored 7 points in the 2nd Quarter, hitting a 3 pointer and going a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.

In the 3rd Quarter, Washington Academy took a 52-51 lead, as they outscored Ellsworth 19-15 in the Quarter. Tyler Varney scored 7 points, including a 3 pointer, Jacob Schoppee drained 2 3 pointers and Gage Feeney had 6 points in the quarter for Washington Academy.  For Ellsworth, Brandon Braley had 5 points including a 3 pointer, Nightingale had a 3 pointer, Josh Bean had 4 points including a 3 pointer, Steven Mahon had 2 points and Bruce St. Peter went 1-2 from the free throw line.

In the 4th Quarter Washington Academy had a 5 point lead with 4:44 left leading 58-53.  Then Brandon Braley went 1-2 from the free throw line for Ellsworth, and the score was WA 58 Ellsworth 54. Mahon then drained a 3 pointer followed by a 2 pointer and with 2:59 left, Ellsworth led 59-58. Tyler Varney made 1 of 2 free throws with 1:57 left and the score was tied at 59.

Ellsworth was led by Steven Mahon with 22 points while Gage Feeney had 20 points for Washington Academy. Mahon had 4 3 pointers for Ellsworth, Nightingale had 4 3 pointers for Ellsworth as well.

With a victory over MDI on Friday, February 8th Ellsworth will play in a prelim game on Wednesday February 13th with the opportunity to go to the Eastern Maine Tourney in Bangor. The Ellsworth - MDI game may be heard on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio with the pregame starting at 6:15 and tip-off at 7 PM. Ellsworth's record improves to 7-10 while Washington Academy's record falls to 7-10. Washington Academy's last game of the season is Friday, when they play host to Old Town.
