The Ellsworth Boys Basketball Team gave Coach Peter Austin a birthday present he won't soon forget, with a 50-49 victory at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth on Wednesday, January 15th. Darby Barry who hit a school record 8 3-pointers against MCI on Saturday, January 11th hit his 2nd of the game with about 12 seconds left in the game, and sank the free throw as he was fouled for a 4 point play to give the Eagles the win.

Ellsworth led 12-8 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Jackson Curtis had 8 points for Ellsworth, while Austin Harris had 4 points. For Hermon Isaac Varney had 4 points and Jaeden Henderson and Eli Reed each had 2 points.

The score was tied 22-22 at the end of the 1st Half. Hermon had 4 3's in the 2nd Quarter. Reed had 5 points with a 3-pointer. Zac Tubbs, Isaac Varney and Trey Brown each had a 3-pointer. For Ellsworth Darby Barry and Brett Bragdon each had a 3-pointer and Jackson Curtis had 4 points.

The score remained tied at the end of the 3rd Quarter 37-37. Varney had 12 points for Hermon with a 3-pointer. Trey Brown had 2 points and Eli Reed was 1-2 from the free throw line. For Ellsworth Jackson Curtis had 7 points with a 3-pointer. Darby Barry and Brett Bragdon were each fouled while shooting 3-pointers and each went 3-3 from the free throw line and J'von James had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter Isaac Varney  picked up his 4th foul and then fouled out running over Austin Harris who had set a pick. Varney fouled out with 3:50 remaining in the Quarter. Trey Brown had 5 points with his 2nd 3-pointer. Reed had 3 points and Tubbs 2 points. Varney had 2 points. The Hawks went 3-9 from the free throw line in the final Quarter. For Ellsworth Berry had 4 points, James 4 points, Jackson Curtis 3 points and Hunter Curtis 2 points.

Ellsworth was ;led by Jackson Curtis with a game high 22 points . Darby Barry had 10 points. Ellsworth was 12-16 from the free throw line.

Hermon was led by Isaac Varney with 21 points. Eli Reed had 11 points and Trey Brown 10 points. Hermon was 7-16 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth is now 8-2 and will play at Orono on Saturday January 18th at 12:30 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device

Hermon is 10-2 and will play host to Caribou on Saturday, January 18th at 4:30 p.m.
