Dexter Beats Ellsworth 44-28 [STATS/PHOTOS]
The Dexter Tigers beat the Ellsworth Eagles 44-28 on Saturday, September 2nd in Dexter. The game was played in temperatures that were flirting with the 80's.
Ellsworth got off to an absolutely horrible start, as they fumbled on their 1st 3 possessions.
Dexter took advantage of the 1st 2 fumbles, scoring 2 touchdowns. The 1st touchdown came on a 38 yard run by Holdyn Guenther. The 2-point conversion was good, and Dexter led 8-0 with 9:53 left in the 1st Quarter.
The next touchdown was scored by Zakary Adams, when he ran in from 5 yards out. The 2-point conversion was no good, and Dexter led 14-0 with 6:04 left in the 1st Quarter.
After Ellsworth fumbled for the 3rd time, Dexter took over, and proceeded to fumble the ball.
The Eagles took over on their own 25 yard line with 4:10 left in the 1st Quarter. The Eagles moved down the field, and finally punched the ball in the end zone, as Thomas Jude ran in from 4 yards out. The drive took 5:36. The 2-point conversion was good. Dexter led 14-8.
The Tigers then scored after taking over on their own 33 yard line. The touchdown came when Blaine Gould ran the ball in from 19 yards out. The drive took 3:36. The 2-point conversion was good, and Dexter was up 22-8.
Ellsworth took over on their own 36 yard line with 6:36 left to go in the 2nd Half. Josiah James Chin ran the ball in from 58 yards out for the touchdown. The drive took 3:22. The 2-point conversion was no good, and Dexter led 22-14.
Dexter scored again before half-time.Blaine Gould ran in from 32 yards out. The drive took 2:23 and when the 2-point conversion was good, Dexter was up 30-14 at the end of the 1st Half.
Dexter received the ball in the 2nd Half after deferring and proceeded to turnover the ball after fumbling. Ellsworth took over at the Tiger 36 yard line.
It took just 1:01 until the Eagles were in the end zone. Matt Carney scored from 4 yards out. The 2-point conversion was good, and Ellsworth was trailing by 8 points, 30-22.
Dexter proceeded to turn the ball over on downs, and Ellsworth was forced to punt. On the next possession Dexter was forced to punt and the Eagles blocked the punt, taking over on the Dexter 21 yard line with 2:45 left to go in the 3rd Quarter.
With 31.1 seconds left in the 3rd Quarter, Carney scored his 2nd touchdown of the game, punching the ball in from the 3 yard line. Ellsworth trailed 30-28 and had the opportunity to tie the score, but was unable to convert the 2-point attempt.
Dexter would score twice more in the game.
With 8:50 left to go in the 4th Quarte, Blaine Gould threw a 8 yard pass to Will Spratt for a touchdown. The drive took 6:01 and when the Tigers converted the 2-point attempt, they were up 38-28.
The final score came with 7:25 left in the game, when Gould scored his 3rd touchdown of the game, running it in from 47 yards. The 2-point attempt was no good, and the final score was 44-28.
Dexter is now 1-0 and will play at Mattanawcook Academy on Friday, September 8th at 7 p.m.
Ellsworth is 0-1. They will host Aroostook County on Friday, September 8th at 6 p.m.
